Saltash Cornwall 23rd September 2023

Saltash Cornwall 23rd September 2023
Taken from the train (GWR 2C77 the 16.18 from Plymouth) while crossing the River Tamar on Brunel's fabulous Royal Albert railway bridge.

Riverside on the left was the site of the Saltash Ferry which was had been in operation since Norman times and was the only crossing of the Tamar here until the railway arrived. It ceased to run in 1961 when the adjacent Tamar Road Bridge opened.

Devon to the left, Cornwall to the right.

Erhard Bernstein, Edna Edenkoben, buonacoppi, ColRam and 5 other people have particularly liked this photo

Not many people have this view I think. Excellent lines of the yachts and ripples.

Thanks Herb. You have to be quick with the phone between the bridgework though!
