6201 again!

02 Sep 2011 294
6201 " Princess Elizabeth " leads this morning's Scarborough Flyer past Nether Alderley. We had hoped for a 'Black 5' for a change, but it was not to be.

Cameras on the platform

Plenty of photographers about when the Buxton Spa Express accelerated through Middlewood.

The Austerity and the Tup

09 Sep 2007 370
Austerity HE3791, named after the erstwhile manager of the line, ascends Tenterden Bank on the Kent & East Sussex Railway at the start of the Hop Pickers Weekend in 2007.

Whiston at the pit

15 Oct 2011 427
Another image of Whiston at Foxfield Colliery which I have worked on following some helpful constructive criticism from my good friend channel packet. This is a tighter crop than the first view I posted and the train is a little further back.

Shunting the yard

Manouverings in the far depths of Foxfield Colliery yard at the recent steam gala.

Darjeeling 19

31 Mar 2007 477
Memories of an open day at Statfold Barn when Adrian Shooter's Darjeeling B Class loco No.19 was one of the attractions. The train is running on dual gauge track but the notice by the points warns that the branch is only 2ft gauge and that trains on the 2ft 6ins gauge should STOP!

Too much steam

26 Aug 2011 316
6201 Princess Elizabeth was a little early when it arrived with the Scarborough Flyer at the Chelford loop where an Arriva Wales train was to pass. Clearly the boiler was full and the fire hot, for the safety valves lifted as soon as the train stopped.

Scarborough Flyer

The Scarborough Flyer is on its way shortly after leaving Chelford.

Late home again

19 Oct 2011 402
Euston delays due to a broken down train at Berkhamstead holding up all incoming services. I was eventually 25 minutes late back in Macclesfield. :-( Still in time for a pint of Robbies though :-))

Handforth

09 Sep 2011 276
Another dull, dark day and 6201 Princess Elizabeth leads the Scarborough Flyer through Handforth. Maybe it will be sunny next year.

Danes Moss tramway

26 Oct 1962 2 1674
Action on the Danes Moss peat tramway in Macclesfield. This 'railtour' took place on 26th October 1962 and was punctuated by several derailments on the grassy tracks. Here the passengers scramble back aboard after rectifying a derailment whilst the motive power patiently watches. The gauge was 3ft 0ins and the motive power was named 'Star'. In the background can be glimpsed Macclesfield Moss signal box and wagons on the sidings adjacent to the building belonging to the British Peat Moss Litter Company Ltd which built and operated the tramway. I am very grateful to Alan Brackenbury for giving me permission to post his photograph and consult his notes made on the day of the railtour.

Tangmere in action.

Passing at Clogwyn

05 Aug 2011 2 344
Two trains at Clogwyn station on the Snowdon Mountain Railway. On such a pleasant day the adjacent path was thronged with walkers, whilst on the Dinorwic side of the valley we met nobody all day!

Internal crossing

30 Aug 2007 384
HL 3865 on an internal level crossing at Barrington Cement Works in Cambridgeshire. Sadly this site has now closed and there is no chance of seeing scenes like this again.

Tulyar at the end of the line

27 Dec 1981 412
Deltic 55-015 Tulyar stands at the buffer stops at Liverpool Lime Street in the last few days before withdrawal. The train had just arrived after a spirited run from York.

Apesford in the rain

Q6 leaving Goathland for Pickering

12 Jun 2008 320
NER Q6 63395 heads away from Goathland Station with an afternoon service to Pickering. The semaphore signals add a lot to the atmosphere on this line.

Harman's Cross

06 Jul 2007 300
Standard Class Five 73129 departs Harman's Cross for Swanage. I just happened to be passing and saw the loco approaching, so it was a quick dash onto the platform for a few shots.
