Zenica blast furnace


The blast furnace at Zenica stopped production in 1990 during the civil war in the fromer Yugoslavia and production here eventually became based around a new electric furnace completed in 2004. The Mittal group purchased the main part of the steelworks in 2005 and invested 100 million Euro in renovations and restarting iron production which took place in 2008. At the time of this photograph work was being undertaken to prepare the furnace for relighting,
