Danebower Colliery

Danebower Colliery
The Danebower Colliery chimney remains as a landmark and the most obvious reminder of the extensive coal industry that once existed around the remote moorland borders of Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire between Macclesfield, Leek and Buxton. Seen here from the Derbyshire side of the River Dane whilst approaching via the access track to the Reeve Edge flagstone quarries.

The mine was abandoned in 1922 and then reopened whilst pillars were robbed between 1926 and 1928.
