Super Drone

Super Drone
The D-21 served as a supersonic snoop launched at high altitude from a M-21 aircraft. It was designed to carry a single high-resolution photographic camera over a pre-programmed path, then release the camera module into the air for retrieval, followed by the drone’s self-destruction.
So, this is actually a very sophisticated disposable camera created in 1962 !

This photo was taken from a Hasselblad 500C medium format film camera with a Carl Zeiss Distagon 1:4 f=50mm T* lens using Kodak Portra 160 film, scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

If you finally succeed in visiting this place you will find a group of old pilots onsite who will love to talk about their experiences and even take you onboard a couple of the aircraft.

Quite a peculiar photo and aircraft. I wonder how you could take it, is it not forbidden to photograph military aircraft or weapons in USA?

This and other military hardware are exhibits in an aviation museum and since they are now "obsolete" the visitors can photograph them and in some cases even board some of the aircraft with the docents (who are elderly ex-pilots).

For a 'disposable camera', it must have been quite expensive... It resembles an engine from an SR71.
