Red-naped Sapsucker
Another photo in a series that I took in one of my local parks. I stood for ages watching this pair of Red-naped Sapsuckers flying to and from this old tree stump.

Red-naped Sapsucker
This male has a red forehead, red patch behind the ear and a red chin and throat.

Hairy balance
The Hairy Woodpecker presses its tail down onto the tree stump to steady itself and to keep its balance better.

Gotta love those males
I'm always happy when either a male Downy or Hairy is around because I love their bright red patches. What nasal tufts!

Hairy Woodpecker
Not a very sharp photo, but it's OK seen small! It was almost as if he was playing 'Hide and seek" with me around the tree trunk at times. Happy Feathery Friday, everyone!

Serious business
Oops, just missed the top of his head but at least a little of his bright red patch can be seen. I seem to be seeing more of this Hairy than I used to, which is great.

Hairy Woodpecker
This male made up for missing the chance to get a photo of the female when two people and their unleashed dogs came down the hill and passed me. The dogs went crashing wildly through the trees and bushes, scaring off all the birds - which is exactly why they are supposed to be on a leash.

Contrasts
Saw this female Hairy Woodpecker on my walk this afternoon, along with her mate. There was also a pair of Downy Woodpeckers nearby, and it is always interesting to compare the sizes.
