Breakfast on Holiday, 1949

Breakfast on Holiday, 1949
Uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of "Breakfast".

My mother, Hazel Gregory, is looking at the camera and her sister, Pearl, is eating her oatmeal. (Yuck.) Looks like there was tea and toast as well. (Yum.)
My mother was on holiday with her sister, her brother-in-law, Les, and their little boy, John.
They were in Jaywick, Clacton, Essex which was a sweet place then, I guess.
It's now called "the most deprived village in England."

Not a fan of oatmeal then? I love your mother's expression. A great family photo that chronicles people, period and place. What might have been in that bottle of dark liquid?

Definitely not a fan of oatmeal.
I'm not sure about that dark liquid - I wondered about it too. Possibly Ribena, a cordial type of drink that you mix with water. It's made from blackcurrants and was promoted for children as a health drink (although heavily sweetened with sugar). It could have been on the breakfast table for John who was about 2 at the time.
