Allan James Foley (1837-1899); Irish bass known as "Signor Foli".
In 1862 he made his debut at Catania as Elmiro in Rossini's “Otello”. From 1862/64 he appeared in the opera houses of Turin, Modena and Milan. In 1864 he was engaged at Paris. In 1865 he made his London debut at “Her Majesty’s Theatre” as St. Bris in “Les Huguenots” and from this year on he mainly sang at Covent Garden, Her Majesty's Theatre and the Drury Lane Theatre. His repertoire included over 60 rôles.He performed in Austria, Russia, America (1878/9), Australia (1892), South Africa (1893) and again in London (1896) .He was also a very successful oratorio and concert singer.
