First a convent, but after the Reformation it was turned into a hospital and an asylum. It also had old people’s houses. The Faculty of Medicine of Leiden University used this hospital to observe patients, so it is the predecessor of the Leiden Academic Hospital. This gate dates from the end of the 16th century.
