Leidens Ontzet 2013 – Taptoe – Lugdunum

There was a Roman city/town called Lugdunum near Leiden. In the Renaissance it was thought that Lugdunum was Leiden. They called the town Lugdunum Batavorum, to distinguish it from the other towns called Lugdunum. Leiden was therefore also known as Lugdunum Batavorum, or LB for short. The University is called in Latin Academia Lugduno Batavo, which can be seen on the seal and the logo of the university. This football club was also called Lugdunum.

Later it was discovered that the Roman town of Lugdunum was closer to the sea, near the town of Katwijk. The remains are in the sea nowadays.
