Baked, wrapped, ready (1)

Ginger rye, ready to transport to family feast tomorrow. It's wrapped to stay fresh, but it's also wrapped to keep us from eating it beforehand.

Peanut stew

03 Dec 2009 133
One way to handle an overflowing vegetable shelf in December--make a big pot of peanut stew. This one has rice and lime and curry spices and loads of fresh vegetables, some of which were still in the ground yesterday. Thanks CSA!

A Merry CSA Meal

25 Dec 2009 138
Much of our Christmas dinner was based on produce from Tanaka Farms, received in our CSA box about a week ago. The greens in the salad, the onions and potatoes in the scalloped potatoes, the parsley and onions on the salmon, and the steamed broccoli and cauliflower, all from the CSA. (The tomatoes in the salad are also local--late bloomers from our yard.)

Hand Tending Spicy Fish (7/5)

05 Jul 2009 109
For Lisa C.'s "Month of Hands" project. Making salmon with tomatoes from our garden and onions, and Shan Fish Seasoning Mix from the Artesia Market.

Hand Making Dinner (7/14)

14 Jul 2009 96
For Lisa C.'s "A Month of Hands" project. Another tomato tart in progress. Tomatoes and oregano are both from our garden. You can also see garlic, grated parmesan, and the crust (mmmm, whole wheat with lemon zest and more parmesan, and loads of butter).

Hand with Fish and Chips (7/17)

17 Jul 2009 100
For Lisa C.'s "A Month of Hands" project. Taken at Suzy's Bar & Grill in Hermosa Beach, 7/17. Nell and I shared the Friday special after music camp; she played with her DS while I read. We watched a guy attaching skateboards to a high arch near the ceiling.

Hand with Kiwi Sorbet (7/22)

22 Jul 2009 162
For Lisa C.'s "A Month of Hands" project. We went to Glacier Gelato to mark son's last day of summer school. Bonus hands belong to daughter.

Vietnamese grilled beef salad

From dinner at the Pho Thai Long restaurant in Hawthorne, CA.

Beet Cabbage Salad

02 Feb 2010 175
A magenta heart to greet February! Beets and red cabbage from recent CSA boxes. Recipe suggested by my friend Rubi and cobbled from several online (just four ingredients: shredded beets, shredded red cabbage, garlic powder, and a small amount of mayonnaise). I didn't think I liked beets. Now I think I love them.

CSA Box, 3/8/10

08 Apr 2010 187
A close up of some of the goodies this week--green cauliflower, strawberries, avocado, cilantro, tangerines (I think--never can remember the differences between all the various tangerine-like fruits). Added to "A Month of Gratitude" 11/1/10. I am grateful for good fresh local food year-round, through a program that also benefits our PTA.

Soondubu at Cho Dang Tofu

04 Nov 2011 133
Tofu/seafood stew at a Korean restaurant in Torrance; it was a chilly, rainy night outside, which made bubbling hot spicy stew all the warmer.

Teisan Lap

25 Nov 2009 244
Batch of Welsh cookies, ready to transport to family feast tomorrow. It's wrapped to stay fresh, but it's also wrapped to keep us from eating it beforehand.

Honey Cardamom cookies

25 Jul 2011 143
These were based on a recipe for molasses-ginger cookies--but I didn't have enough molasses or ground ginger. So honey instead of molasses, cardamom and nutmeg instead of ginger. Tasted great, with a wonderful texture.

Pho, at Saigon Dish

23 Jan 2013 122
Saigon Dish in Lawndale is hopping at lunchtime! I just went because it seemed like a pho day.

Cardamom-Pistachio Cookies

21 Feb 2011 102
Used this recipe: www.thewednesdaychef.com/the_wednesday_chef/2009/12/mary-... For Girl Scout Thinking Day festivities tomorrow night (our troop is serving Indian treats).

Emoticon Cookies

21 May 2010 160
At the Literature.Culture.Media Slam at UCSB, 5/21/10. These were part of the presentation next to mine. Hard to compete with cookies! There were several full trays of these, I just didn't get a photo until many of them were gone.
