Pandemic chalk: The Sunshade

Pandemic chalk: The Sunshade
Did the annual chalk event in Belmont Shore, where they tape paper to the sidewalks in a busy shopping district. This year my chalk was based loosely on The Sunshade by William John Leech, a 1913 painting in the National Gallery of Ireland.

I only found out about Ada when I was working at the library and a few authors started writing children’s books about her. Before that it was only (probably) mathematicians/scientists that knew much (if anything) about her.
It makes me angry to realize how many women artists, mathematicians, scientists, architects, etc. were erased from history, often with their work dismissed or claimed by men.
Thank you for this lovely portrait of an amazing woman.

Yes! This is why I edit Wikipedia with WikiProject Women in Red; there are too many stories we need to keep telling.
