Upscaled Image of Occultation of Jupiter
Larchmont, NY
This upscaled image from a 4:23 AM photo of the lunar occultation of Jupiter that occurred on October 6, 2026 captures Jupiter just moments before it was completely covered by the moon.
It has been processed using specific astrophotography enhancement techniques:
• True Optical Scale: The relative sizes of the moon's craters and Jupiter are mathematically accurate for a high-magnification telescope setup. When viewed through a powerful lens, Jupiter genuinely appears at this scale relative to the lunar edge.
• Utilized Composite Digital Exposure Stacking to overcome the differences in lighting intensity of the moon and Jupiter.
• Also utilized AI Sharpening & Enhancement: The use of algorithms to sharpen the blurry atmospheric noise (called "seeing") to smooth out the lunar details and reconstruct the crisp, geometric gas bands on Jupiter based on existing planetary models.
