Desolation

A negative image created from two photos taken and super imposed on each other to resemble indescribable desolation and ineffable "ice age-like" cold. The hole in the ice represents the eternal emptiness that results from loss, the footprints the indelible mark each life leaves during our existence on this Earth and the prominent naked tree represents lifelessness as the anguished and inconsolable world represented by the bent and broken reeds, is left to grieve. The tiny orbs of luminescence by the naked trees in the top left corner represent distant, departed souls that live in eternity while the reflection of the tree trunk on the thin ice represents lasting memories.

May Marie-claire Gallet rest in peace and enjoy eternal life as she encounters a new spring of renewal in heaven. Your presence will be missed forever.

Wonderful tribute. I am so sorry to learn of Marie-Claire Gallet's passing. She was an enormous supporter of Ipernity, both through her photos and all she did to help the site. I truly hope that her work can be preserved as a permanent memorial for what she meant to the Ipernity community and its people.

Sad to say this may be the case thanks to zero-sum politics, ego supplanting compromise, and insanity over reason -- for instance the crazed logic that a nuclear war is winnable by the party that launches a massive first strike versus the concept of mutually assured destruction that kept the planet safe for decades after the world entered the nuclear age.

I agree climate change is another existential crisis for humanity. Birth rates are already falling in many areas of the world. The dismissive attitude of society ignores the scary fact humans may already have already begun to walk down the path of extinction. They say its due to the high cost of raising a child, wide-spread use of contraception and the decision to focus on career and finances. As chimpanzees, our closest relative are experiencing a similar decline, are they also pursuing careers and financial stability? The arguments are absurd to say the least so the world can avoid taking painful but necessary steps to address this existential crisis.
