First Draftee of WWI: Leo A. Pinckney
Born in Charleston, South Carolina on January 15, 1893. Leo Alex Pinckney, was the first African American draftee of WWI. After he left the military he eventually moved to the Bronx. He married Carlotta Sanders Pinkney (1891-1972). The couple had no children. He died September 1, 1977 and is buried in Long Island National Cemetery, in Farmingdale, New York.
