Crossing the Ouse Washes
The Ouse Washes are part of an extensive network of drainage systems constructed from the 1650s onwards to drain the Great Fen area bordering the Wash in eastern England. Stretching for over 30 kilometres, the Ouse Washes regulate the flow of the Great Ouse river and regularly flood in winter. At this time of year, it hosts internationally important numbers of wintering birds.
Over its entire length, there are just three road crossings and one railway causeway, from which this video was taken.
