Square

Folder: Themes
When cropping some photos, I find that a square format works best.

"Back in the day" I had a Rollei, and took some square photos. Easier now to crop the digital image after the fact!

We were fortunate to be in Texas when the Union Pacific 4014 locomotive (Big Boy) was passing through. We set up our camera in the lovely small town of D'Hanis and caught this scene as the train approached. Image captured from Panasonic Lumix GX85 4K frame series with ffmpeg, and procssed with GIMP (including cropping to a square format). See: swansonphotos.com/4014

Bananas (Plantains?) in Market, St. Lucia

During our cruise ship's stop in St. Lucia, we walked around the port area for a bit. Saw some great produce, including these bananas (or are they plantains?). Taken with the Panasonic GX85 and processed with GIMP (cropping to square format). See: swansonphotos.com/riviera1

In-N-Out Cheeseburger (H.A.N.W.E.)

Taken with the phone using opencamera, and processed (just a little) with GIMP. This is the In-N-Out cheeseburger, taken on September 18, 2019: National Cheeseburger Day! For In-N-Out fans: cheeseburger with one extra cheese (1x2), extra spread, extra toasting of the bun, no onion. I turned off the flash on the phone, so this is really taken by "available light". In fact, window light, which has its own lovely lighting quality.

Purple Wildflower

Taken at the Saguaro National Park, Tucson, Arizona. I used the Panasonic GX85. The wind was blowing all of these delicate wildflowers around. It was difficult to get a clear shot. Processed with GIMP. See: swansonphotos.com/saguaro

Park Fountains (HFF, H.A.N.W.E.)

Taken in a lovely park along the MIssissippi River, in Muscatine, Iowa. This town is overshadowed by the "Quad Cities" nearby, but is worth a stop for itself. This park looks like a nice stop on a hot summer day. Did you know that this was a major pearl button manufacturing town in the late 19th century? There is a statue in this park to the mussel fisherman of that time. Image taken with phone and processed into square format with GIMP. Using the square format allowed me to crop until there is some Rule of Thirds behavior present.
