Very atmospheric Nick. I always feel I can smell the smoke when I see shots like this!
I used to love that when the trains came into Gillingham Station in the 50's and 60's!

I spent many happy hours at Gillingham Station and sometimes down to Templecombe to get the midlands trains too. I remember the Atlantic Coast Express thundering through both stations and the pines express on the Somerset & Dorset line. We must have seen each other at some stage

Hi Nick,

Nice!

Going back to the good old days before elf 'n safety stopped all normal people going in the railway yards. Nowadays you have to take a whole stack of exams (which cost a lot of money.)

Best wishes
Peter

Hi Peter I'm usually up and about long before the elves, but of course it is very rare for me to do such things anyway ~~~ I used to find a high vis waistcoat helped one look official :)

All the best

Poking one's head out of the window to be mesmerised by the rise and fall of the telegraph wires, then finding that one had a sooty face. The smell of the smoke, and the frighteningly loud whistle as the train passed under the platform bridge in St.Andrews. Memories are made of this.

Happy days dearest LGM ~ You have awoken similar memories ~ the wail of the whistle, the clanking of the engine as it drew away from the station ~~~~
