For many years I used to go off by myself on Alpine tours, often following the climbing routes of the Tour de France. I'd carry a fold up bike with me too. Sometimes I'd pick up Isobel from an airport such as Geneve or Nice and tour with her for a few days to, then drop her off at another airport and then I'd carry on a little bit longer..
In this shot high in the Alps on Col Du Telegraph I had just enjoyed my lunch of bagette, butter, cheese, ham and tomato. I then shut the car up and proceeded t o ride my bicycle a little way further up the mountain. It all seemed very easy for the first few minutes, then my breathing get very laboured due to the thin air. I turned around and found the descent more to my liking :)
The bike was a very good way of touring towns in the evening though.
Those days are long gone now

Is this your vehicle? I always think of you as being a Landi man, Nick. ;-)

I am a Landi man dear LGM, but when the children were small and plentiful a people carrier made more sense. (This was back in 2005) xx

Strange that in November there was no snow. I took a look on the map, not far from Switzerland and Italy.

I used to travel around the Alps in late Oct/early November usually snow free except on the highest passes or on the dark side of the mountains. I was often in Switzerland and the north of Italy when rounding the south side of Mount Blanc.

I would quite often stay in Grenoble for two or three nights and use that as a base

Trips in early May often found more snow.

Hi Nick,

I am very impressed with your desire to get out on the bicycle.. My limit now will be London to Brighton in June for BHF..
Age catches up with all of us I'm afraid!!

Best wishes

Hello Nick great memories here i am sure .. the bike looks rather clean and unused so perhaps close to the start of the trip rather than the end

Best wishes ... Steve

Lovely photo Nick !
It evokes beautiful days enjoying riding my bike in the sun ...only on flat lands, anyhow !

I used to use the folding bike to take tours around the town or city I might be staying the night in during my frequent mountain trips. I used to find Tour de France climbs and drive over them enjoying the scenery ~ I very occasionally would do a little bit of hill climbing ( 5 minutes or so)
