Part of the western facade. Mount Abantos and the town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial provide the backdrop below a Mediterranean sky (although nowhere near the Med!).

Probably Madrid's oldest church and some say that it was originally a mosque, but there is little evidence of a Muslim quarter in this part of the old town. It seems that the Muslim influence was strong enough in the 13th century to dictate the architectural style especially as the top 'architects' of the day would have been Muslim!
Jardín del Príncipe de Anglona

A peaceful refuge in the old town, easy to miss if you walk past as access is only through a small door and the garden is walled and of sight from the surrounding streets.

Felipe V, first king of the Borbón dynasty obviously didn't feel secure so he commissioned this massive barracks to be built not far from his Madrid palace. It was constructed between 1717 and 1736, The quarters, with it's grandiose portal shown here, were designed by renowned architect Pedro de Rivera.
Now a cultural and leisure centre.
Chinchon back street.

A popular tourist attraction. I visited on a Monday in April and it was deserted.
It's an attractive town about 30 miles south by south east of Madrid.
