Old buildings

Squeezeguts Alley

A well-named alley (or 'ope' in Cornish) in the middle of Old Truro. The pleasant-looking building is the Old Grammar School, now a bar.

HFF everyone! I'm in danger of infringing the new…

I don't know the name of this tin mine. I was sent on an unexpected detour by roadworks and came across quite a number of old mining structures that I knew were there but hadn't visited for about 25 years. I'll try and find out. I have a few more tin mine ruin shots to post in the fullness of time! Later add on. I think many of the mine buildings hereabouts fall under the name of Wheal Busy. But I could be wrong.,

Forth An Eglos, Saint Day. I didn't quite make it home in time and got as drenched as I have done in many a long year! Better perhaps on large.

Carn Brea. Down the ages.

Neolithic property - foreground, medieval hunting lodge behind. Modern industrial and residential complex on the plain below. The sea at Porthtowan can be clearly seen too.

HFF!

Carn Brea Castle / restaurant. I possibly posted a similar shot before, or it may have been on Panoramio, but I felt it was odd enough to be worth another shot! Sight and Sound. A much underrated singer: Eric Burdon and War: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbuIjsw2gX0 With this song, funk and laid- backness combine beautifully (imho!)

HFF no. 2 today

A Mars a Day ... Oh never mind!

Another HFF and in the nick of time!

Uploaded at 23:59!!! Here it is at the very last second on Friday! It's a name I always forget but some luminaries are buried here. I'll add the appropriate info in a day or so; tomorrow I return to Madrid. Here we are, 3 days later: Panteon des Hombres Illustres. (Near Atocha). Jan 2020. Different times. We hadn't really heard of Covid 19 back then although now it's known that the laboratory leakage had already occured at the Wuhan institute back in August 2019 (and apparently another strain also leaked from there a few weeks later - and nothing whatsoever to do with a wet-fish market).

HANWE everyone!

A colourful corner in Miranda de Castañar, Salamanca Province. Fond memories of an enjoyable holiday in La Sierra de Francia in 2016, full of the most delightful villages and scenery. Sight and sound; more Janis: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1043Jjb_JlA

Buitrago del Lozoya. Town walls.

I like the warm tones of these walls. And taken from the exact same spot as my previous upload. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm9UadB7XvE Sixto Rodriguez. Worth a listen,

Battlements. Buitrago del Lozoya.

15 Jun 2023 32 18 223
It was a large town by medieval standards and the battlements go a long way round! In the distance the Sierra de Guadarrama marking the borders of Madrid and Segovia provinces, although for many centuries this area was claimed by Segovia and they even went to war over it. (Madrid won in the end)..

HFF!

The battlements and a lamp at Buitrago del Lozoya. When I last visited in 2015, there was no access to the castle or battlements (which extend all around what was a large town for the period - late middle ages) due to serious works. I was surprised to see that they only seemed to be about half way there but at least some sections of the battlements are now open. More to follow. Sight and sound: because I like this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=he5Cj3S1iJQ

Buitrago del Lozoya. Castle and church.

You can't enter the castle and judging by the state those walls are in, that's a good call by the authorities!

More Cornish tin mines. HANWE, everyone!

Situated on a minor side road between St Day and Chacewater, I only re-discovered them when sent on a detour due to a road closure. I don't know their names. Perhaps worth viewing on large for detail of the stonework. Sight and Sound: I heard this aged 9 at the same time as Penny Lane and fell in love with them both and it was the first time I listened to popular music - I was having a classical musical training. Have ever since loved the 'best' of both! www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDgqIyprGLM
