I think it's blackthorn, but hawthorn is a possibility.
From my (by now well-trod) path to the pub. No horses this time but there we are.
On the blackthorn / hawthorn doubt, I do know from personal experience of many years of collecting sloes that hawthorn and blackthorn very rarely, if ever, grow in close proximity to each other and I wonder why.

I used to know the answer to this question when I lived in England and frequented pubs often - but I've been living in Spain these past 15 years (the past 6 months looking after my frail parents excepted) and the one thing I missed apart from anything else was a decent pint of bitter. I'm in England now for sure but only get the chance to go for a pint (and no more) about 3 times a week and I taste a different bitter each time as The Star Inn does major on good beer and good cellar managenment. So I consider myself fortunate!

I'm so glad to hear of you walking most days, especially a visit to the local pub. You do need to fill up your reservoir at least on your walks!!! Great blossom - I don't know the difference I'm afraid, so whatever it's called, it's beautiful

Thank you, Jenny. I do what little walking I can and it's certainly no more than about a third of what I regularly achieved before I came over. I hope to get back to that level in a weeks time when I return to Spain.
