Winter. Algete, Madrid. Many thanks to the IMA team for their unstinting work in getting the upload problem resolved!

Just outside the house. I have a couple more but that's it. Couldn't venture too far as it was either too deep or too icy and I can't risk a slip and a fall. By the time I could get out, it had changed to a dirty slush, so to all those who assumed I would have a bank of snow pictures, I'm very sorry!

Beautiful snowy picture, Andy. I read the temperature in Spain was -35. Apparently that was a different part of the country or it has warmed up quickly.

Thank you, Ronald. Well it's been iced up and we've been isolated in our hilltop community but the roads have been cleared now. Still perishing cold though! I saw the extremely cold temperatures on the news and they were in Guadalajara Province (next door to Madrid Province) and a bit further to the east in Cuenca and Teruel Provinces but all of us copped extremely cold temperatures. We were all keeping fingers crossed about burst pipes and so on!. Not out of the woods yet!

Wonderful snow view you had !

I would have liked to have taken a shot of the mountains across the snowy fields but it was either foggy, blizzard conditions, or the sun was at the wrong angle and it just didn't work so I just have a few at the side and the front of the house. A missed opportunity maybe!

I've been thinking of you many times in the last days, Andy. You have much more snow than we have here in Switzerland, at least here at Bern.
Stay safe and take care!
Best wishes

Heavy snow ! It's lovely to see and looks wonderful on the branches. I know what you mean about missed opportunities. When I was younger I was fearless in snow. Now, like you, I don't want to fall or get stuck somewhere in the car. But it's amazing what good images like this are on the doorstep.

Great to be back here with 'live' photos Andy. And there you were only a short time informing me how cold it could get in Madrid. We saw this snow fall in Madrid on the news. Exciting stuff for you but as you say a wee bit dangerous if you are not dead steady on the pegs. Like here, all gone now. Ah well, a splendid capture anyway.

See you again soon. Keep safe. Herb

Thanks Herb.
I'm a dab hand on snow and ice normally - I used to go ice climbing in Scotland in my youth. But with a back op due shortly, I daren't irritate my dodgy vertebrae any more than necessary!
It's still very much with us by the way, and not likely to go away any time soon. Ice is the problem now more than snow as our temperatures at night are around minus 20!

Andy Rodker club has replied to Ulrich John club
Thank you, Ulrich.
Yes, Winter cold is normal, Ulrich but perhaps not this cold! Madrid is the higest capital city in Europe and is far from any maritime moderating influence so has a Siberian feel in winter. What we don't often get is deep snow.

I think your decision not to risk yourself out in deep snow or ice is pretty sensible Andy, no matter how photogenic it is..!!

Nicely captured, by the way!

No I'm pleased that you looked after yourself, no photo is worth hurting yourself for. The one you have presented is brilliant. I had heard that there was an incredible amount of snow in your area and thought of you. Those temperatures are scary - and here's me complaining about -4C!!!!
Andy Rodker club has replied to Jenny McIntyre club
Thank you, Jenny. Yes. Still extremely cold and I have to go to my hospital.
I leave here on foot at 6 tomorrow morning and walk 40 minutes to the bus stop and go the 30 miles to Madrid, them the metro for 9 stops and 2 changes of line then another 15 minutes walk at the other end. Plenty of opportunity for a policeman to question my movements, but I at least will have the hospital appointment paper to hand!

A lovely snowy scene, with temperatures that befit the Antarctic! Stay safe.
Andy Rodker club has replied to tiabunna club
Thank you, George.
Funnily enough, Madrid city centre is worse than my village: only the streets have been cleared, no pavements and that wasn't funny outside my hospital, especially for local folk who aren't used to it. Coupled with falling icicles from tall buildings and my hospital visit today is quite an adventure! Not the same as the Antarctic, I concede! But temperatures are still at a record low (-20).

Andy the image is lovely and such a dump of snow Spain has had. Don't envy you those extreme temperatures. I do hope all goes well for you with your back op. Will send extra positive healing energies your way . I have been thinking about Pam J. as, if all goes well will be having op on her spine as well. The two of you can care notes. Wish the best for you Andy. Stay warm and safe.

Actually my op was postponed, date still to be decided. And now put back further no doubt, due toi the snow and ice. Yes, I've been thinking about Pam today too. Was going to send her an email yesterday but yesterday took on a life of its own so it didn't happen but I'll try to get in touch inthe next couple of days.

This area [ my town ] supposedly had 10 min. of snow the other day.
Nobody took a photo ..
It wasn't on my street -- or there would be a photo !

So, guess it was 'imaginary snow' or wishful snow...

No pic - then it didn't happen :)

Andy Rodker club has replied to Peggy C club
Madrid gets maybe a small sprinkling of snow once a year, but not since 1907 has it snowed as hard, long or settled as deep. It's thawing now though. Mind you, we always get perishing cold as we are on a high plateau far from the moderating influence of an ocean. Positively Siberian in fact!
