H. A. N. W. E. everyone! North Cliffs, heather and gorse, this section sadly crumbled away these past 7 years! And a particularly favourite place too.

The South West Peninsula Coast Path above Porthcadjack and Basset Cove.
Sadly no more. When I next went for a walk here the following year (2012) this section had gone and the path was some way inland. On Google maps here, the path is still shown as following the old route, straight over the edge! You would have thought that they could have updated the map in 7 years!
Look at this - a short way along the coast; www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMnbOlvx72k
Sight and sound - please see my (a touch rambling) reply to Jean's comment some way below.

It's amazing how many people have blind faith in their SatNav (it seems to be called GPS in most other countries - what's it called in your neck of the woods, Pam?) or in their apps! But, if you look at the map here, you will see what I mean!

Pam you might appreciate Jean's comment and my reply and the nostalgic song ensuing from it!

Would you believe we have none of that ! we use good old fashioned paper maps !! You actually can't find us with a GPS /Sat Nav co-ordinate !

The Noel Harrison .. I have always loved !!!.

Totally agree about idioms. Many I grew up with I have to explain here.

I love paper maps 1,000 times more than the modern stuff! At one time I wanted ti be a cartographer. If I had become one it would have turned rather sour for me!

That's certainly a shame to lose such a beautiful coastline.

Andy Rodker club has replied to Eunice Perkins club
True, especially when in flower! But it's only at this short stretch and only about 15-20 feet or so. There are plenty of other places along here that remain, and are just as colourful!

It's a shame that a piece of the cliff has gone..........but that's erosion for you, it can't really be stopped, only slowed down!

This is beautifully composed with those delightful wild flowers in the foreground! I've given you a star in memory of the missing bit :-)

Pity about the coastal erosion, all the lovely heather and gorse s gone....

Google and updating their maps? Dream on;-) They are either years out of date or ahead of their time as recently in the case if a (not yet opened) tunnel in Iceland....Some people actually drove in until they were stopped by workers.

Andy Rodker club has replied to Gudrun club
You are right, Gudrun and as more and more people worldwide are discovering, Google is a big pile of ordure. Really a very horrible outfit that deserves a bigger kicking than it's getting! Same applies to Facebook (and the others too, come to think of it!) but I reserve a special distaste for Google after what they did to Google Reader, Panoramio and other stuff too - I'll stop here before I get in a hissy fit!

'It clears away the cobwebs of the mind'

I love teaching this idiom to my students, Jean.
It has many elements; 'Web' (synonyms: network, mesh, Spanish = 'red' and confusion with 'red' - colour in English, 'cob = old English for spider', to clear away (the plates!), the word 'mind' - many many different applications, 'mindful', 'mindless', 'narrow-minded', 'remind' 'mind the gap' as opposed to the Spanish 'The train is about to approach the station which is on a curve, On leaving the train, please be careful not to place your foot between the carriage and the platform' etc., etc., etc., - Idioms such as this (and others such as Milton's 'Every cloud has a silver lining' or 'Bite the bullet' (Indian Mutiny origin) are a godsend to the likes of me who occasionally has 10 minutes at the end of a class to think of something to teach because he has left his lesson plans at home, or some such!!
I almost added 'Windmills of Your Mind' but that might be going it a bit for my 2018 students who average 28 years old, and for whom Noel Harrison was probably a member of Oasis or The Beatles!!
Anyway, I haven't heard it for years so I'm adding it to Sight and Sound!
Dammit, just listened to it after 30 years and it has great idioms, clearly enunciated and a sure thing for my classes!
Adding it here too! Just for you!

Thanks for that. You've just brought back memories of a magical day in London in the sixties which ended by going to see The Thomas Crown Affair which that music was the soundtrack of. The other memory you brought back was trying to explain the word lead(as in metal) to a group of French students when I was only allowed to use English. Eventually got there via plumbers.
