El Escorial visible from the Roman road

El Escorial visible from the Roman road
The Monastery Palace of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Phillip II's headquarters for running the largest empire yet seen.
Somehow, viewing it from the ruins of an earlier 'biggie', its impact is softened!

From the air, and you can make it out from an aerial map, it is straight but on the ground, it isn't quite so straight. The Romans weren't daft; they did go round the main obstacles!
