Saint Day, Cornwall.
Sadly, I stay here all too infrequently!

Ooh, what a lovely old place to stay! Why do you "sadly" stay there?

I wrote that I sadly stay there all too infrequently. You must have mis-read the sentence. We all do it!
I stay here about once a year for a couple of weeks. In fact it normally coincides with a visit from my sister's family, also from Spain and so they all have my bedroom and my girlfriend and I have the guest bedroom. So I really only end up sleeping in my bedroom about one week in 3 years on average! I love my bedroom up in the eaves of the house and miss it! It contains all my treasured things; paintings, books, pottery, etc that I can't easily take over to Madrid.

OH! Yes, I misread it, as I do things like contracts, manuals, instructions, marriage licenses, tax forms and so on.

You are lucky to have a room with all your things still in it! I was expected to take all stuff with me when I moved out from home as a student.

I moved here aged 50 when I lost everything on bankruptcy. This isn't the 'family home from my teenage years'. I got my parents a mortgage to buy this place in the late 90s. They were already of retirement age. It is a long story of desperate financial problems and solutions and certainly isn't a story of a childhood home welcoming back the wayward child!
But a lot of luck was involved here too!
Actually many families are complex with regard to finance and properties and we are no exception!
Sorry! I realise that my earlier comment would indeed lead to your natural assumption!
Best wishes,
Andy
