Frank Sugg, Lancashire and England

Frank Sugg, Lancashire and England
My great grandfather's uncle. A hard-hitting batsman in the Botham / Flintoff / Pietersen / Stokes mold. (a 19th century pinch hitter!) He played in the first two test matches of Dr W G Grace's captaincy of England against the 1888 Australian tourists, which they won handsomely..

Thank you Mario, Obviously I didn't take this photo. I would be about 158 years old if I had!

Not so, Gudrun; the greatest number of players in the world are from the Indian sub-continent!

They totally control all aspects of the sport today, Gudrun! England has little real say in this any more!

Fascinating to find this one. I am backing up photos off Flickr at the moment and found an Ian Botham ( I will post it now) and found this when looking if I had posted it before.

Late response, Colin!!!! Not sure I follow you. Yes, Frank was a crowd pleaser à la Botham or Flintoff or Stokes, but I get the impression he was wilder than any of them and was never really trusted by the powers that were!

He certainly looks like a great character

He was certainly that, Colin. He also played football for Everton and was a strong swimmer, once very seriously considering being the first man to cross the English Channel. Perhaps fortunately he was beaten to it and dropped the idea!
