Frost and Lichens
Freezing fog produced these wonderful ice crystals on these lichens. We were out for a walk on a wintry morning when these photos were taken.
Frost and Mosses
Since lichens and mosses are hard to identify without a microscope and chemicals, I have not made an effort to identify these but just enjoyed them with their beautiful frosted coating, produced by a morning of freezing fog.
Frost and Lichens
We had freezing fog the day these photos were taken but that was all the more reason to get out with the camera and the effort did not go unrewarded. There are several different kinds of lichens on this branch and I believe the the long, gray, hairy lichen is known as Witches' Hair but lichens are notoriously difficult to identify and I've made no real effort to do so.
Teasel
Beautiful both in flower and when dead and dried these Teasel seed heads are nevertheless paart of an invasive and troublesome plant. We photographed them on a frosty morning near Clear Lake and just across the road from our home.
Teasels
My attitude toward Teasels is a bit ambivalent. They are not a native plant and are very difficult to control (we have trouble keeping them out of our yard) but the seed heads are very beautiful both in flower and when dried. These were photographed on a frosty morning down by our lake.

Known as Fuller's Teasels these are an invasive plant in our area, but it is difficult not to love their beautiful seed heads. These were photographed on a frosty morning near Clear Lake and not far from our home.
Snow
My wife spotted this when we were out walking after getting more snow during the night - these old seed heads of some kind of weed with their covering of snow.

These are the dead needles of a Ponderosa Pine with a bit of snow caught in them - one of the treasures we've found and photographed on our daily walks.
Snow
We have had snow and more snow the past few weeks, close to a one and half meters (five feet). Some of it has melted but most of it is still on the ground. In spite of the snow we take a walk every day looking for things to photograph and this snowy lichen was one of our finds and one of the few things that's green at this time of the year.
