Killdeer

The Killdeer, a Plover, receives its name from its distinctive cry. This one was photographed wading in the hot water at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park.

Clark's Nutcracker

We did not see a lot of birds in Crater Lake National Park but did see and photograph this Clark's Nutcracker at one of the turnouts along the West Rim Drive.

Killdeer at Minerva Terrace.

This photo was taken at Minerva Terrace in Yellowstone National Park and is of a Killdeer looking for food in the hot water of the terrace. We've seen this before and have wondered why the heat does not keep them away, though it probably ensures a constant food source.

Spotted Sandpiper

I identified this as the Least Sandpiper on the basis of its yellow legs (visible in other pictures), but have since been correct by James Page. It is not the Least but the Spotted Sandpiper. It was photographed at the Devonian Botanic Gardens of the University of Alberta in Devon.

Mrs. Wood Duck

Not nearly as brightly colored as her husband and quite shy, too, she was photographed in Stanley Park on another trip there in 2011 with son Edward.

All Together Now!

The photo was taken last autumn at Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park, Vancouver. The birds are probably Double-crested Cormorants and they are drying their wings on a log that has obviously been much used for that purpose. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2013/12/stanley-park-vancouver-part-3-lost.html

Coming in Hard

Not sure what kind of gull this is but the photo was taken at Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park, Vancouver. An elderly gentleman was feeding the gulls and ducks while we took pictures and this immature gull was inbound for more food when I took his picture.
