This White-crowned Sparrow was one of the birds we saw and photographed on the Fortynine Palms trail in Joshua Tree National Park.
Mourning Dove
A Mourning Dove is a common bird, but one I've never photographed before. This one we saw and photographed on the trail to Fortynine Palms Oasis in Joshua Tree National Park.
Turkey Vulture
We left Wyoming and entered South Dakota by way of Interstate 90 and then turned south toward the Black Hills. We intended to spend a day or two sightseeing there but were rained out. Indeed, these photos of Turkey Vultures near Custer, South Dakota, were the only photos we took in that area.

This photo of a Turkey Vulture was taken just outside Custer, South Dakota, as we traveled through the Black Hills of that state. There were a number of Vultures perched on a fence there and we stopped for photos.

Great Horned Owl and Chicks
This Great Horned Owl with chicks was photographed by my wife at Upper Grassi Lake near Canmore, Alberta. We had hiked there and I did not have a telephoto lens along, so she took the photo. The chicks, which we did not notice until we looked at our photos later are below her and to her left (our right).
Western Meadowlark
In a more open area along the Titus Canyon Road in Death Valley National Park we were able to get photos of a Western Meadowlark and here he is. This is not selective coloring but simply the background and plants as they actually appeared.

Wild Turkeys
These were photographed near the place we stay in eastern Washington when we travel there every month. We see them often but do not always have opportunity to photograph them.
