Little Sable Lighthouse

Little Sable Lighthouse
I was out last night with my brother and friend doing some sunset and night photography at one of our favorite spots, Little Sable Point and its lighthouse. The Milky Way appeared after dark and this was the first time I was able to get photos of it - still not everything I would wish, but better than last time. The lights in the south are the lights of Chicago across a vast expanse of Lake Michigan.

Nora Caracci, , Nouchetdu38, buonacoppi and 34 other people have particularly liked this photo

I have never seen the Milky Way so clear and bright, and especially with illumination on the horizon
In Portugal, only in places with very low light
The beacon light is remarkable!!

I've never tried this, Ron, and there isn't much opportunity to do so where we live. Does one require a ND filter to compensate for the long exposure?

I shot this with a 11-14mm f2.8 lens, manual focus (the really difficult part), at 3200 ISO, 15 second exposure at f2.8 (lens wide open). Because it's night the ND filter would be counter-productive as the settings I used show. The 15 second exposure, of course, requires a tripod.
