Corybas barbarae

This is our first Australian native orchid in bloom! We had seen other native orchids further north in the rainforests, including a Cymbidium, a Dendrobium, some Bulbophyllums and a few others, but none in bloom. The leaf and flower on this orchid are both 3 cm and the plant, rather obviously, is terrestrial. The orchids in the genus Corybas are usually known as Helmet Orchids. We photographed these along the trail to the top of Mount Ngun Ngun, one of the Glasshouse Mountains north of Brisbane.
