Mountain Lady's Slipper

Here is what we were photographing last night and this morning and the reason I didn't post a picture yesterday. It is our tenth orchid of the season (we photographed another, the ninth, yesterday morning). It is the Mountain Lady's Slipper, Cypripedium montanum fma. welchii. The species is quite variable in color and this form has crimson around the edges of the lip and very dark sepals and petals. We also found an albino which has none of the purple coloring, but I'll post a picture of that tomorrow. These are at their peak in the mountains and we photographed them at three different locations.
