Tulip

Tulip
I know I promised that the last photo would be be the last from the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, but I didn't have anything else ready, so here's one more. I was away for the past three days, am working with a new camera and just didn't have time to get anything ready.

Jan Klimczak, Nora Caracci, , and 28 other people have particularly liked this photo

Maravilloso macro, ese fondo negro me encanta porque da todo el protagonismo a la flor.

Yes, I got the upgrade to the 7D, so I'm now using the 7D Mark II, a bit fancier and more bells and whistles than the original. The old camera had served me well, but it had pretty much reached the end of its usefulness and is now an emergency backup - not even worth selling.

well worth breaking your promise! Glorious. couldn't ask for a better composition for this flower.

you did this with an F4-5.6 lens? incredible.

I had probably the crappiest lens Canon ever made, the one used to take this photo, the 17-85 IS USM. In fact we had two of them. They repeatedly broke down until we had more in repairs than the lenses original cost and both of them are now sitting on my desk not working properly - will probably be sold for parts. When the photo was taken the zoom on the lens lens I was using worked sometimes and sometimes did not. Managed to get this shot but it was almost the last photo I took with that lens. I replaced it with a Canon 18-135 IS STM at the same time I replaced my camera.

pretty great farewell for that lens. the only zoom lens i've ever liked is on my ancient (for digital) tiny pentax optio that i still baby along. probably i only tolerate it because it has has a macro that works well for me. other than that they annoy me (only in my use, not in anyone else using them -ha!) and i use fixed focal length. there's something about me having too many choices as i start to compose. i like to match my eye to the lens i'm currently using and see differently for that. always impressed with people who can navigate the many choices in our lives.

thanks for adding to 'naturey crap - crappy nature'.

I, too, prefer fixed focal length lenses, but when hiking and backpacking, I can't carry too many lenses or too much weight and so I usually sue a telephoto of some kind. Nor when I am in the backcountry do I care to change lenses any more often than necessary to avoid getting dust into the camera.
