Destroyed

Destroyed
This photo is from a GoFundMe page. The grandmother of Travis'* girlfriend had a farm northeast of Klamath Falls, which has just been destroyed by the "Bootleg Fire." It's a very big, fast-moving one that grew from a few hundred acres the first day to nearly 77,000 acres (31161 hectares) four days later! I don't know yet if she got all of her animals out. I'm afraid to ask. Everything was destroyed, as you see.
I am sick about it. She is the sweetest person and has raised two grandchildren while putting all her resources into her 142 acre farm. The destruction caused by these droughts and fires every year is breaking my heart.

Firefighters have had to escape to safety zones due to extreme heat and wind in addition to the fire itself. Conditions were life-threatening for them, as well as residents and tourists in the area.

*My grandson.

EDIT 11 July: The fire is now nearly 150,000 acres. I can't believe it, this is like a rolling explosion. tinyurl.com/52d8bmwb ( I guess I should have posted this in "Articles.")

EDIT 12 July This is the fire my son is on, called the Beckworth Complex (meaning several fires merged into a mega-fire). It shows a fire tornado overtaking a crew in a base camp. Warning - strong language. www.instagram.com/p/CRK6yQoFXYq This is in Plumas County, NE California..

Oh dear! We hear and see of these fires on our news of course, but it's not until you see the effects up close and read the accompanying story that it hit's home!

Such a sad story Diane, but it seems the community are rallying round to help.

It's awful. Today was terribly smoky because the wind died down. However, it continued to blow hard where the fire is. By now, it's so big it's making its own weather system.

I did find out today that all of her animals are safe! My grandson helped with the rushed evacuation. There are goats, a couple of cows, lots of chickens, ducks and geese and a dog or two. Almost everyday there is a new fire somewhere in our region, including N. California.

Glad to hear the animals are safe (and the people of course). I hope you and yours remain safe!

(.........and yet still people don't believe in climate change/global warming)..!!

It's a topsy-turvy world! You have heatwaves and forest fires over therein the north-west, and we are almost drowning in the rains!
Last night we had over 40 liters of rain per square metres (1,2 square yards) !

Yes, everything is upside down and backwards. A disorienting carnival ride.
