The "back road" to the park

The "back road" to the park
It became a rough gravel road after about two miles of paving, or, I should say it was really a ROCK road. Since it was too rough to drive on with a normal car, I turned back and went to the main highway. The following few photos are on the pleasant paved part, with many kinds of trees, just not the redwoods, yet.

He was one of the early explorers/mountain men/trappers, right up there with the likes of Jim Bridger and Kit Carson. IIRC he was the first Euro-American in what's now Nevada, and was killed in an Indian fight at the ripe old age of ca. 30. He got around a lot in his short life!

PS: And according to Wikipedia, my memory wasn't too bad! ;)

Hey, you did WAY better than I would have. I would have said, "Oh, he drove his wagon from the east to Oregon and so on and so forth." Yep, those were the days of non-stop action and then you die.
