Pity about the farm and the padlock- it looks to have been a lovely place once. I wish we had weather like this....

They gave up, apparently. The weather now is not pleasant like that photo! Danke.

I'm glad I never have weather like this. 'snow' is a four-letter word!

Ugh! I do not like snow, other than to look at from my window. Living in it is a lot of work.

The abandoned house looks rather lovely in that sunshine Diane.............nicely seen and taken.

I think so, too. In gloomy weather it would completely change. Thank you!

Yes, but it's operated by a wood burning stove. ;-b

... saw your shot with the barbed wire ("bob-wire" in parts of Appalachia) first; intrigued by the farmhouse, so found this shot too ... this abandoned house is iconic in the plight of the small family farmer ... the weathered siding is a lovely hue ...

... but the roof looks new, and the hefty chain on the gate may be more than needed ...

Yes, the roof seems to have been put on shortly before the house was abandoned. Although no one lives in the house, the land itself isn't abandoned, which probably explains the chain. Also keeping vandals and "recyclers" out of the house, I imagine. Across the street (behind me as I took this shot) is a newer farmhouse, which could simply be another family member of this original occupant. It's not common for an entire farm to be left behind these days - at least not in this area - because all but the richest farm families have a member who has a job in town.
