India?

India?
If this was really made in India, I'd love to see the transport trail from iron ore to India to this manhole cover in the US. It could not possibly be cost-effective or fuel-efficient to transport a shipment of cast iron manhole covers from India to the USA!

, Heidiho, William Sutherland, have particularly liked this photo

Oh, that's interesting! I never imagined there was a manhole cover industry in India. Thanks, CWW.

They have a well deveoped heavy industrial base (like the topical Tata Steel). What is surprising to me is that a country like the UK with its strong traditions of iron foundries finds it cheaper to import goods such as manhole covers from across the other side of the world. Such is the global economy.

Oh, right, I forgot about Tata - don't they own just about everything there?

I thought exactly the same thing about the US. Steel and most other heavy industries are rusting away more than this manhole cover. I don't begrudge them their industry, but the whole thing is weird, isn't it?
