HARIBO ist die Abkürzung für *Hans Riegel, Bonn*

Hans Riegel, 1893 in Friesdorf bei Bonn geboren, absolviert nach der Schulausbildung eine Lehre als Bonbonkocher.
1920 macht sich Hans Riegel mit seiner eigenen Firma selbstständig. In der Bergstraße in Kessenich, damals noch ein Vorort von Bonn, erwirbt Hans Riegel ein Haus, in dem er die erste Fabrikationsstätte einrichtet. Das Startkapital besteht aus einem Sack Zucker, einer Marmorplatte, einem Hocker, einem gemauerten Herd, einem Kupferkessel und einer Walze.
