La Corbière and its lighthouse
| |
|
|
|
Jersey, one of the Channel Islands: Sit and enjoy with me this most wonderful sight. The lighthouse of La Corbière is set on a tidal island out at sea, surrounded by dark rock. It is at the extreme south-western point of Jersey in St. Brélade. The name means "a place where crows gather", deriving from the word corbîn meaning crow. You see it here at low tide and accessible via the tidal causeway.
Have a great day.

A walk around my local Hollingworth lake revealed a new bench for me. This near the Water Activity centre, depicting memorial maple leaves.
Have a great day.

A look at one of the outride staircases of this impressive castle area of Budapest. Much of the castle was being re-built for a second time after sever damage during the Second World War. To us these impressive building stones look brand new. The step stairway was just one of many belonging to the castle.
Enjoy the day
HBM ~ A bench of many views and sounds.

As one sits on this bench in the Howard Davis Park in St Helier, Jersey, we can concentrate of at least three angles of fine garden views. Unfortunately, sitting here just misses the view into the big band/concert stand around the corner on the right but you would certainly enjoy the sounds.
HBM, enjoy the week.
HBM ~ Gone fishing

A walk along the long St Catherine’s breakwater gives a glimpse of the local’s pastime. I heard that the fishing was good here.
The PiP shows the whole breakwater.
Have a great day.

Appleby, a small market town in the east of Cumbria is famous for its annual horse fair but on our recent visit we were entertained along the Eden river banks by the Appleby Summer Crafty Trail. A free trail displaying many works by the ‘Appleby Crafty Ladies’ group. Most of the many figures we saw were made up of plant pots, wool and old clothing. A real pleasure to witness.
The PiP shows a local couple taking a rest.
Have a great day.
HBM ~ A Smardale walk

Enjoy with me a scene from the old Stainmore railway line, closed in 1969. This is actually a branch line from Bishop Auckland to Tebay now another linear cycle/walking path over a spectacular viaduct. We are actually near the end of this dismantled line near the village of Smarldale in Cumbria.
Enjoy the day

A good place to relax in this springtime environment.
The Penrhyn Park grounds here by the town of Bangor in Wales can be quite wonderful. As we walk along its northern boundary we see what looks like an Island but it is just the continuation of the North Wales mainland. To the right the high slopes belong to Llanfairfechan, Penmaenmawr and Cowy before flattening on the Llandudno’s southern shore and the Great Orme itself (centre left).
Have a great day.

Like most of our British seaside town piers, this Welsh one is full of benches for visitors and locals alike to enjoy the sea air and views. As it is still the month of April, the sun is still in short supply even though this year has been far sunnier and drier than normal. It’s still rather cool and a few rain drops are in the air.
If we were to glance left here over the Great Orme headland we would be looking west towards the Isle of Anglesey, still a few miles from here and if we were to look right we would see the headland of Little Orme before eventually Liverpool in England.
Have a great day,

A visit to the ‘La Mare Wine estate’ on Jersey gave me a glimpse of this garden. No shortage of beverage for the long balmy summer nights here as seen by the barrels and bottles.
The PiP shows part of the tour .

A visit to the small town of Appleby in Cumbria demonstrates that there is some history to be experienced here. We see here the 12th century Keep known as Caesar’s tower that overlooks the River Eden.
The bench whilst looking fragile, I can assure you was quite solid.
Have a great day.

A rather nice view here over towards Guernsey from the south west coast of Jersey.
Have a great day.
HBM ~ Red Mount Chapel, King’s Lynn
| |
|
|
|
A visit to the town of King’s Lynn in Norfolk brings us to it’s local park called ‘The Walks’. The tower in the background (PiP) is called Red Mount Chapel, a part of the local history for 540 years. Built as a respite for pilgrims on their way to the Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham, giving them the chance to stop and pray. During that time it has undergone many transformations

Have a great day.
HBM ~ At rest at Potter Heigham
| |
|
|
|
We are here in the village of Potter Heigham on the Norfolk Broads. It is the home of many cruiser hire companies and has a fair number of holiday homes too. It is perhaps most famous for its medieval bridge (dating from ~1385) which is quite low & difficult for boats to navigate. We take a walk up the River Thurne from here. See PiP for view from your boat. (adjacent photo)
Enjoy the day
HBM ~ Beach huts with seats

|
|
|
Just about 5 miles west of Happisburgh is the small seaside village of Mundesley. Another village with an eroding coastline but with an attempt to entice families to its very large beach with a long row of colourful beach-huts. Just in front of the huts is a walkway but as we can see, one can walk and sit above them too.
Have a great day.
HBM ~ King’s Lynn Minster

A visit to King’s Lynn in Norfolk cannot be made without seeing this impressive twin towered church. The PiP (last photo) show the inside nave from the entrance to the chancel.
St Margaret's Church, King's Lynn, entitled King's Lynn Minster since 2011, is a Grade I listed parish church in the Church of England in King's Lynn, Norfolk. The building dates from the 12th to 15th centuries, with major restoration of the nave in the 18th century. Wikipedia
Have a great day.
Picnic at West Somerton
| |
|
|
|
Still around the Norfolk Broads we are in the tiny village of West Somerton, the starting point for a fine little walk along the River Thurne towards Martham Broad. We can see another windmill here which is the ‘West Somerton Drainage Mill’ again without its sails. The bench we see was our picnic spot a little time after taking this.
Have a great day.
Thornham dyke.
| |
|
|
|
Today we visit Thornham with its long dyke. We are strolling towards Hunstanton over the sea marshes and in a few hours these inlets arms would re-fill with water. There are a lot of sea birds and waders around here as it is a favourite feeding and nesting area for migrating birds. If you look carefully on full screen you can see the sand of the big beach and sea edge. See PiP.
Have a great day.
