Memories of Tuscany: Marina di Bibbona

11 May 2011 32 22 336
Just about 10km south from our accommodation at Cecina is this small but pleasant seaside resort of Mariana di Bibbona. Like lots of the beaches around here, many places are reserved for those that are willing to pay. I – well, I wander around with my camera looking for scenes like this, and I very seldom sit down to sun-bathe. Hope you enjoyed this free view as much as I did. Especially in full screen Ps - We will visit the hillside village of Bibbona later.

Memories of Tuscany: Marina di Cecina

Our first full chance to relax before seeing our accommodation. Here we are at our local beach of Cecina with a sight that we would never ever see back home in Britain. Matched sun-umbrellas and chairs all lined up in an orderly fashion. Of course, demonstrating that certain Italian flair of matching harmony with nature. Enjoy full screen

Golden Glow

A late warm scene taken last year in Devon. The tree makes this for me giving us pause as ours eyes scan from side to side. Enjoy full size

Escape fence

25 May 2020 46 80 284
Another of our old cotton-mill fire-escapes here, standing out quite spectacularly in the bright rare sunshine today. Fortunately, not often used! Maybe I should have posted this in this months ‘windows’ theme SPC :) HFF, enjoy your weekend

Still Life: Study in blue

19 May 2020 22 18 232
Two pieces of glass standing side by side, almost mirroring themselves in their enveloping curves. Behind is a background of sky blue and clouds with hints of red reflections in the glass from somewhere, we know not where from.

Double message fence

A view of the outflow inspection bridge of Digley Reservoir -near the village of Holmfirth. The Danger sign reminds us to naturally keep of this structure but it also reminds us that we are altogether restricted from visiting such places at the moment with this Corvid19 lock-down. Here in the UK one should only venture out to such places if you can get there by foot from you home, whilst socially isolating of course! Ah well- we can look forward to a future where such visits are possible again – Notice the sun is coming! HFF, enjoy the weekend and keep very SAFE

Housey-housey

09 Mar 2009 27 22 254
SPC Joint Winner March/April 2020 (Porte/Doors). My fellow winner was Amelia Heath Originally in my old Panoramio account, these are actually beach huts. The title chosen because of the numbered boxes here representing in a little way our old social light gambling game: Bingo. When one won - they would shout 'House'! The game was often called 'housey-housey. Of course the double meaning was not lost on me neither :) The SPC (Secret Photographer Challenge) is one of a handful of Ipernity photo competitions. It is a fun contest giving contestants a chance to pit their skills with often something a little different from their normal Ipernity submissions. Each contestant enters up to three small photos that are not in their Ipernity account already. A winner is brought about afterwards by free votes of the SPC membership. The winner (s) have the prize of honour and also the chance to select the next subject. Please give it a try - its easy and fun: www.ipernity.com/group/2249054/discuss/190840 Enjoy

High Power Mk1

08 Jan 2020 37 36 279
A rectangular patterned version of the adjacent mono one here. (Both being the same shot in reality.) I know some of my viewers will have a preference as to which one is better and why, but we are all different as is the way we see the world. Feel free to comment on each photo:) Enjoy

High Power

08 Jan 2020 7 7 189
Many years back now, I took a series of slides depicting our local elctricity National-Grid pylons and power-lines for one of my camera club competitions. After recently being reminded of how these scenes might look today, I eventually got around to venturing out in the freezing cold to take a few shots. The coloured versions looked OK but I liked this toned effect better. I also tried this just as a perfect square and with the power lines going across, you can see that in the PiP (adjacent photo), but I ended up with this as my favourite. Essential full size on black :)

Salt Pans of South Africa

03 Apr 2014 20 12 295
Seen on the Swartkops Estuary, just off the coast, near Port Elizabeth in South Africa there is quite an industry collecting and producing salt. Here we see some of the patterns created by these salt pans. Not a soul in sight though. Taken on my big Asian/Africa cruise of 2014. Enjoy full screen

Yorkshire wall pattern

30 Dec 2019 19 13 209
Around our way, up in Yorkshire and Lancashire too, come to that, we have lots of fields and often the separation between them are not made of wire or wooden fences but real quarried cut stone or in reality - rock! No wonder then that the same walls are standing as good as ever hundreds of years later. Now and again we can get to a point of view where the patterns are quite distinguished as here. Taken at Holmfirth, Yorkshire Enjoy full screen

Silence

It's that time of year, when the woods go silent, the mist creeps down and the low sun shows us the way.

A sea of lines

02 Oct 2019 13 23 240
Enjoy these colours and lines. A prize was offered to the first person who spotted what this (or they) are :) - That has already gone to Colin, below. Off course these are the tops of some of our British Narrow boats, all moored on the 'Trent and Mersey Canal' basin at Haywood in Staffordshire.

Art Deco fence

20 Aug 2019 55 93 778
An unusual view of the stairway and fences of the newly refurbished Midland Hotel in Morecambe. This historic 1933 hotel stands on the seafront with the convex side facing the sea. It was refurbished and opened in 2008 and will shortly be joined here by a new Northern ‘Eden Project’. More Info . Needs full screen. I wish you all, a great weekend, Herb

Curvy play fence

20 Aug 2019 61 106 570
Seen on the edge of a playground in the Lancashire seaside resort of Morecambe. Without the shadows this would have been nothing so once again light saves the day. I wish you all, a great weekend, Herb

Partial Luner Eclipse - July 16, 2019

17 Jul 2019 30 40 322
A composite selection of my images, covering about 45 minutes, starting from left to right as the moon rose here in the North West of England at 22.30, before cloud obscured the complete full moon shortly afterwards. Not quite as good as Steve Paxton's Eclipse
