Kuala Lumpur, National monument Park

looking towards the city centre, this also shows the Tugu Megara national monument. The National Monument is a sculpture that commemorates those who died in Malaysia's struggle for freedom, principally against the Japanese occupation during World War II and the Malayan Emergency, which lasted from 1948 until 1960 PiP

Bring me Sunshine!

In memory of one of Britains funniest entertainers: Eric Morecambe OBE. Bring me Sunshine A tribute! (make sure you see the very funny bit at the end of this video!) He was the very funny half of the comedy/singing duo 'Morecambe and Wise' and sadly died after a stage performance in 1984. He was actually named Eric Bartholomew but took the name of his birth town Morecambe for his great career that lasted from 1940 untill his death. He partnered up with Ernest Wiseman who was to be become a lifetime close friend and comedy partner. Their duet act was called Morcambe and Wise. In 1977 their Christmas show had an estimated audience of 28 million. Ernie Wise died in 1999. This statue sits in a place of honour halfway along Morecamb's promenade. The pose here is a very well known one and is in fact a snapshot of his funny dance as they often finished a show - lifting his back legs high and swapping this arm and leg formation in a parody of an Austrian Schuhplattler to the song 'Bring Me Sunshine'. - At any one time during the day, you can witness people here being photographed with the life-size statue mirroring the pose with smiles. So much was he held in such esteem. Enjoy along with the video in full size.

The Glenfinnan monument in average weather

What a difference a day makes. The PiP's shows what the weather was like in 2016 when we were last here. This time, the blue skies and sun have entirely been replaced with squally rain and mist and I am constantly wiping the rain off my protective lens filter. A visit today, along with nearby Fort William as part of our lightning bus tour of this area. Wiki: "A minor branch of the Clan Donald, built a memorial tower at Glenfinnan to commemorate the raising of the standard of the Young Pretender: Prince Charles initially landed from France on Eriskay in the Western Isles. He then travelled to the mainland in a small rowing boat, coming ashore at Loch nan Uamh just west of Glenfinnan. On arrival on the Scottish mainland, he was met by a small number of MacDonalds. Stuart waited at Glenfinnan for a number of days as more MacDonalds, Camerons, Macfies and MacDonnells arrived. On 19 August 1745, after Prince Charles judged he had enough military support, he climbed the hill near Glenfinnan as MacMaster of Glenaladale raised his royal standard. The Young Pretender then announced to all the mustered clans he claimed the British throne in the name of his father James Stuart ('the Old Pretender'). A MacPhee (Macfie) was one of two pipers with Bonnie Prince Charlie when he raised his banner above Glenfinnan. Afterwards brandy was distributed to the assembled highlanders to celebrate the occasion. Eight months later, Charles Stuart's claim to the throne ended in failure at the Battle of Culloden on the 16 April 1746. Many Macfies, who came from Glenfinnan, followed Donald Cameron of Lochiel on the right flank of the Jacobite Army at the battle."

Memories of Tuscany: Siena - Palazzo Pubblico

A view from the inside of this wonderful palace or to be more exact, the internal courtyard, that lends us a high clear view outside, to the tall tower of Mangia. Inside here on the walls are quite a few things of interest including this bronze sculpture of ‘The Capitoline Wolf’ depicting a scene from the legend of the founding of Rome. The sculpture shows a she-wolf suckling the mythical twin founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus. See PiP Enjoy full screen

Son Marroig fence

The Wonders of Mallorca: Deia – Son Marroig This wonderful structure belongs to what is now the museum and grounds of ‘Son Marroig’, a beautiful 19th century manor that was owned by the Austrian Habsburgs. It was an emblematic possession in Deia where Archduke Ludwig Salvator lived. From here a wonderful garden path leads us to a trail down to the sea far below where more wonderful views and a fabulous little restaurant awaits. See PiPs for more view in and out. HFF, enjoy your weekend in safety.

Rebecca at the well sees the light

Alexandra Park in Autumn and a photo just a few days after Halloween when pumpkins dominated. Here is someone’s idea of a joke and brings a smile to me. This statue has history: it replaces an earlier one of the very same nature that was placed in the park in 1865 but was damaged beyond repair in 1956. In 2004 Sculpture Andrew Sinclair created this replica, he only had a fuzzy photo of the original and so enlisted the help of a young 23yr old model called Naomi. It is said that this original statue was based on the biblical character of Rebecca, in which two references come to light: 1) “Before he had finished speaking, there was Rebecca…. Coming out with her water jar on her shoulder. The girl was very fair to look upon, a young girl, whom no man had known. She went down to the spring, filled her jar, and came up.’ Genesis 24:1-27.” 2) The Betrothal and Marriage of Rebecca Rebecca was the young woman who became the wife of Isaac, Sarah’s son. She came from a well-to-do family in upper Mesopotamia, now north eastern Syria. She was a relative of Abraham; her family background is given in Genesis 22:20-23. Rebecca was beautiful, shrewd, energetic, physically robust and strong-willed. We first meet her at the well of Aram-naharaim, where she showed that she was willing to work, and confident enough to speak without fear to the strangers who had been sent by Abraham to find a wife for Isaac. This moment, with its symbolism of the well and water, has been popular with artists through the ages. Of course 'Halloween' is also derived from the bible: 'All Hallows' Eve', (The eve of 'All Saints Day' As is usual with my photos, best viewed full screen
