Two photos here from this spot (see last photo), looking both ways. This shows Alderman Hill in the background before the water descends through a series of weirs eventually emptying into Dovestones reservoir. The previous photo shows the chute itself

Ravenstone/Ashway Tunnel water chute.

Two photos here from this spot, looking both ways. This shot shows the steep water chute after exiting the 1.5km tunnel that starts life at the bottom of Raven Stones.I have read reports that children used to slide down the chute into the deep pool here on hot summer days when an old ladder was in place near the top (since removed.) The almost solid funnels, which are both full of water, are simply used to break up the fast flow of water after heavy rain. See next photo for the other view which shows Alderman Hill in the background before the water descends through a series of weirs eventually emptying into Dovestones reservoir.

HWW ~ A summer walk.

A summers day near Greenfield brings us some murky weather overlooking Yeoman Hey Reservoir. This part of a wall is very typical of the walls around here, probably built by the makers of the reservoirs (ASD Waterworks) as farmers rarely finished the tops of with rounded shaped stone. Of course this would be grit-stone which is plentiful around these parts with many small quarries dug into the sides of the valleys.
Enjoy the day in better weather.
HFF ~ Autumn by Chew

I am at the foot of Chew valley here. It runs down from the top Chew Reservoir to here, just about 75m from Dovestones reservoir. It is quite steep and it makes a narrow ravine near the top. An area I have walked many times in all weathers and seasons but I must admit these trees always look their best in the golden colours of autumn.
Enjoy the weekend.
Why I love Autumn

When I saw this tree against the sun and with a backdrop of woodland charm I felt as if I could hug it! I have always loved trees – the sight, feel and smell of them fills me with the joys of our earth.
This is another from the bottom of our Chew Valley and I cannot make any excuse for having had captured scenes from here before and sharing them with you –but you know –I cannot help it!!!

A walk into a painting

A most enjoyable stroll around the bottom of our Chew Valley near Dovestones reservoir cannot help but be endearing. An obvious 3-shot HDR render here gives us a slightly painted effect but that is how it felt in real life as well. Well worth getting my boots wet and muddy for, I think.
Full screen essential.
HBM ~ A robin pays tribute

The Dovestones reservoir area has quite a lot of these memorial benches. This one is remembering Kate & James who ran together around here. I think they would have enjoyed the company of this little robin. See Pip
Have a great day.
A walk up-stream

Taking a step into the wild side here.
Shooting into the sun from such a low angle accompanied by a haze is fraught with difficulties. I asked myself, “should I fight it”.
