Just when I was starting to think that our garden bird watching was coming to an end (The RSPB have recommended that we do not feed the birds seeds and nuts on a table or via a feeder from May till October) I see this. - Not the first time that I have seen a Sparrowhawk in the garden -the last time (and I got a picture too) it was devouring the head of one of our blackbirds (about 5-10 years back). Glad you enjoyed the capture.

Yes, I've just seen these recommendations from the RSPB on the TV and in their latest magazine. It makes perfect sense. Apparently it's OK to feed stuff that is eaten quickly and which does not have time to go bad, such as mealworms! I think I'll still put out some seeds, but only a small amount at a time. I have a lot of Wood Pigeons visiting and so nothing lasts very long. The most important thing is to clean and disinfect feeders daily.
