The Hartland Devon Heritage Coast

The Hartland Devon Heritage Coast
Another retro look at my past trips here. This time from North Devon near Harland Point, on the edge of the Bristol Channel. Taken in August 2010 with my trusty Olympus E410. – I see the weather was not much better then than it is nowadays.

Best full screen

Enjoy the day

A superb capture of this wild looking coastline Herb. I like the jagged looking rocks in the background, which contrast well with the smooth (but large) pebbles on the right.

You've captured the power and movement of the waves perfectly and I love the leaden sky!

I was in that area about a year after you, but the seas were much calmer and it did nothing but rain.

Great that you enjoyed this one Keith. I was reminded of it whilst looking at one of our holiday video's on the other night. Those video's always include a 'slide show' too of which this was one of the photos. I have just looked at your HDR shot of the area too and that same mushroom tower was very prominent in lots of my shots of which this was part of the series. I had forgotten that you dabbled in HDR too in the past. Like your shot, these dark skies do make coastal scenes more interesting. Although I did create a few HDR shots, as I took many of my shots in sets of three, this was not one of them.

Thanks and take care. Herb

I went to that area for a three day camping and photography trip with some mates and it rained pretty much non-stop every day and night..!! I vowed then I would never go camping again.........and I still haven't. :-)))

A wise choice no doubt. The last time we slept in a tent was in a house tent with Eurocamp in France some 30 odd years back. It all went great until the en-route last night when it rained so hard that water dripped through the roof all night. We vowed never to stay in one again and like you haven't done to this day :)))

Sehr schön in diesem Bild finde ich die von der Brandung rundgeschliffenen Steine.

Yes the stones looked very nice in this light and as you say, smoothed by millenium of waves and fellow stone friction.

Best Wishes. Herb

A great and really evocative image, Herb. 1/400 sec was perfect to freeze the action in the water but keep a sense of its movement. As a south Devon boy, I love a choppy seascape, but the idea of going out sailing in it is less appealing these days!

Your county has a lot going for it Gavin. What a great coast this is. Glad you liked it. My only sailing experience is on my PC sailing simulation.

Take care. Herb
