Brimham Rocks –The Idol Stone

Brimham Rocks –The Idol Stone
Quite an amazing stone here of this massive rock balanced on what must be only inches of rock plinth the size of a football. It felt that if one was to lean on this, it would topple over but it really must have been like this for millennium now.
See Pip for alternative view and previous picture.

Brimham Rocks, once known as Brimham Crags, is a 183.9-hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest and an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site is known for its water- and weather-eroded rocks, which were formed over 325 million years ago and have assumed fantastic shapes. Lots of the rocks, made of sandstone, have old druid names such as Druids Alta, Druids Writing desk etc.

I would not have dared to try Gordon. Just imagine a regular visitor coming here to see it toppled over by somebody giving it a push. Glad you liked it.

Wow!! That is an amazing natural rock formation.......I've never seen anything like it before. It's difficult to imagine how it's still standing! I thought it looks precarious in the PiP, but it looks even more unstable in this image. Crazy..!!

You've captured both shots in superb detail Herb, especially noticeable when viewed large!

This was an incredible place with a few stupendous rock formations said to have been shaped by rushing water after the ice-age melt down. As Toz says, it really looks like it would fall over easy if you leaned on it. Glad you liked both shots of this.

Cheers for the full score too. Herb

It all looks so precarious, balancing on that relatively insubstantial base. Amazing natural art.
