David took his drone so was able to capture this very different view of the Landscape we would not normally see.
Two views of the Cave in the day light.
I have cropped the shot.
This was a trial weekend with my brand new Night lens Samyang XP F2.4 14mm.
This was the main reason for the trip to light the cave area and have the milky way above. Easy you would think, we both had our lights so it was try each to see what would work and give us the result. This is 5 tries to light the cave area and get a pleasing result. This kind of shows how the magic of the first shot took place. I set up on the edge of the pit to get the whole of the milky way in the shot.
This is a shot made up of 8 Vertical shots. Sadly the light died on us not long after this shot so there was no second chance and trying any thing else. I like this shot my shot of the weekend.
Was it worth it, you seeing the shot we had in our minds and it all the work, you bet perfectly. it was a long drive over the weekend 1000Km in total and two night sleeping on the ground in the bush.
The biggest bug was the moon not ideal but it was there the whole night so it was blow it up or just go with it. This shot and others in the night show up the shower of meteors that was happening.

Easy you would think, we both had our lights so it was try each to see what would work and give us the result. This is 5 tries to light the cave area and get a pleasing result. As you can see we have very little to room to work in, the big rock to the right and the huge rock wall to the left. we had the two tripods almost tangled up so both camera where side by side. It was a case of one shoot the second shoot.
Then became the interesting task of lighting the rocks at our feet and the big rock to the right. It took the two of us to use bounce lighting on rocks to do this. you are looking at a good 45 min of trial and error just to get this shot. Was it worth it, you seeing the shot we had in our minds and all the work, you bet.

This is a shot I took 2019 one of my very first nikon camera and a zoom lens on the tracker.
Once I got a bit further into the world of deep space I was able to see it a whole lot better and capture an image that really showed this area up..
I took this as a photographer, The way I did this, Ha 300sec 100 shots 120sec 50 shots, Oiii 300sec 100 shots 50 shots 120sec and as Sii is not as bright as Ha Oiii I went to 160 shots 300sec. This was made possible as I found out you can stack as one quite a few exposure time as long as you have a differential figure between then as part of the Exeptions when stacking. I am happy the way that this came out you see the detail of all the tendrils in this part of space.
I have combined this as the Hubble pallet Sii Ha Oiii with RGB stars so they look nore natural.I have chosen to make the stars a touch smaller so the nebulosity show up more rather than a blown out star fest.. This is the bright dot in the shot below next to the Large Magellanic Cloud.

As the Clouds came over we set up for some very different astro photography. My son and his wife got into the swing of thing after seeing my first photo and what I had in my head as a shot, what you see here.
Who said you cant have fun with light.

This was no easy target getting enough data to get the thin wisps of red to show up and not to have the center blown out. This is 9 nights of data 200 ODD shots 300 seconds 145 shots 120sec (one whole night) and two nights of 600 sec all Ha Red. There are 155 shots of Oiii 300 sec Blue and 30 shot each Red Green Blue for RGB stars at 60 sec each. ADD to this getting stacking set up correctly so every thing stacks to one master of each 4 1/2 hours on this computer my old one would never manage this. so you are looking at 676 shot AS one, good luck Ai.
This is a colour camera version also you will note I rotated the shot above so the "eye" sits level. This also is a small crop of the final photo. yep this kind of photography is not for every one................ You ask why so much data, the High and Low brows are very faint so its only with building up data they show. May be next year its a case of add to this data and get better.

I have always wondered how this plant ever gets polinated as there are not that many bees in WA . I was taking photos of the flowers as we are about to loose the rains for a good week, when I noticed a most unexpercted behaviour. The fly did not just land on the flower it walked all over it the flies probiscis was going all over the flower in the mean time the flower was getting polinated. DO LOOK as Large as you can this a crop of the D810 file so you can see the pollen all over the fly. This time of year we start to see the bush flies about that become a pest in the next few months. This is how the australian plants live with out bees.

I started my set up 14/7/2025 outside ready for the Nights shooting as I have done for a very long time. I noted that the heater strap on the back mirror was not right so I fixed it up. I looked up to see smoke coming for my Camera/Filter wheel. I pulled out the power cable as fast as I could to the main supply box. when I did get to the front I noted tendrils of smoke coming from the camera.
The long and short the Camera and Filter wheel have been to China and back after a warranty repair. Thats a whole other "Book" but it turns out the parts are not made as robust as I had thought Humidity had corroded the card. So now the camera is either shooting or in the Sahara( Plastic bag and Silica Gel).
This is first light of the QHY268M that is either shooting or living in the Sahara. If you ever needed any proof that a mono camera gathers more detail compare the pair.
The panorama is three long and two night each, its hard to buy consecutive nights these days. This is a SiiHaOiii panorama. Now its look for next target.

Freesia In the Rain.....

|
About 5 years a go we bought a packet of Freesia seeds They are now in all our pots and around the ground next to the pots. Smell is divine.
The photo On world photo goes a long way to explain the day. This shot was taken under an umbrella for the Camera rather than my legs or feet. I knew a few days ago I had only one thing coming my way..................RAIN. First thing this morning it was unmistakable.
The best thing about this shot is the extra lens at the bottom of the flowers. You can 100% see the two milk crates that hold up :
Borya constricta Churchill & Drosera menziesii
Welcome to Down under nothing but rain, thunder, Cold and hail but enjoy the day.
