The case for so many railway lines across the country, unfortunately. A good image, Steve.

I find it a bit strange everything left but I guess it would cost to much to remove.I did not that al the rail crossing you can see the line but no train could use the line as it almost totally covered.

Same in Italy, the little stations are closed and only the bigger remain and we have not so much stops we had once. But the lines are still there.

A fine railway memorabilia here Steve. Like so many of our old lines that really died in the 60s after the 'Beeching' cuts. We still have many of the old lines but all without rails as they were re-used or melted down long ago. What is left now is often a wild railway track which is still well used and respected by walkers and bickers. I walk almost weekly down our linear-park just a few hundred metres from my doorstep. I still hear in my imagination the hoot of the steam whistle as the engines used to pass here. Most of the stations however have long gone leaving just a few signs of things as they were, others converted into des-res (desirable residential) abodes well fenced off so nobody can get near them now.

HFF, enjoy your weekend, Herb
ps great fence too.

Both you and I know that sound In NZ our home was on the main line when I was a child. I hope one day that it can be turned around even for weekend rides. there is a lot of track about signs all for nothing. HFF from out west.

Hi Steve

An image which really spells out our times, and lack of concern for the environment. Most of mainland Europe has realised the need to keep heavy freight off the road. Pulling up railway tracks is counter productive to this. Perhaps some far sighted manager has said "Leave the tracks there, we will need them again when the oil runs out!"
As Herb says, most of our disused tracks have been lifted for scrap. However, a lot in America do get left....

Best Wishes, HFF, and a good weekend
Peter

I am sure the council, or which ever body is looking after the building has only erected the fence to stop people from falling so they don't get held responsible for damages
Maybe we all need hi-vis coats as well.
Hope your weekend was enjoyable.
Great image Steve. Regards Peter

its rather interesting my thoughts exactly we are fast becoming a society of nanners that need looking after. the idea every one is out to get a fast fall and buck is not that far behind alright.
