An excellent capture of this elegant bird, showing himself off to perfection.

Thank you very much, Amelia. I think he is probably drying his feathers after diving into the lake.

This is a great contribution to the WPD. You took the photo at the right moment when this majestic bird spread its wings.

Ronald Losure club has replied to Christa1004 club
Thank you very much, Christa. Actually, it kept its wings spread for a long time. The wings of these birds aren't waterproof like some birds, so they must dry out for a long time after each dive.

A serene and elegant scene.

Thank you for your comment, Gillian. It was (and usually is) a very quiet place. The main exception is during egret nesting season in spring and early summer.

Great capture! The pose is magnificent....

Thank you very much, Eric. Anhingas spend a lot of time in this pose drying off, because their feathers are not water-proof.

A superb capture Ronald. Not a bird we see here so it is lovely to see him with his wings spread to dry off. Attractive surroundings and great reflections and the light on the water is quite magical.
I love this image

Have a good week

How beautiful!
This looks like a an old painting or illustration in an Audubon book.
I love the softness of the colors, which I generally prefer to the highly brightened colored ones.
And I see this is the bird you helped me to correctly identify several years ago!

Thanks, Deborah. I, too, like the colors in this photo, which was one of the reasons I posted it in the World Photography Day group. I have just added you to my contacts, so I will check in on your photos more often.

Bringing back Florida memories .... they are elegant, but just like swans - they can be really goofy.

Thank you very much, Peggy. Goofy is a good word for them.

Such a delightful photo. And perfect timing for the wings. That lotus blossom in the background adds just the right touch. What a glorious moment you've shared with us.

Do you live near this place? Or were you travelling? Did you decide to find a bird for our event?

Happy (belated) World Photography Day!

Ronald Losure club has replied to raingirl club
Thank you very much, raingirl. Timing on the wings was easy; the anhinga was standing still on the log for a long time drying its wings. This place (Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge) is less than a half hour from my house. I knew I would see unusual things there, and decided this was the best of the things I saw.

What a great place to have so close! I have lots of woods near me, but wildlife refuges are a bit further away.
