I wondered if it was part of the internatonal Hacker attack on 70 countries around the world.

John... so far from likely as to be zero... THAT was and is a totally different issue.. and would still be ongoing..

I know Pam, France was not one of the 90 countries hit, though it was during the Presdential election campagne by some extreme right wing group.

Skype was also prone to hiccups esåecially on Friiday when Ipernity was offline, it happened while I was chin wagging with an old Iper friends in UK.

i had e-mailed Sami Serola but did not get a reply until next day.

Cristophe should have given us the SITE REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED DURING FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY in advance as it would have saved a lot of people making the wrong assumptions and the Rumour mongers would have had no basis for telling 'Porkies'

As far as we are aware... it was an optimisation that didnt go as planned. Had it.. the mess I guess wouldnt have happened.It has also been going on and trying to be corrected since 4th May.

Skype was also under attack several times, this I learned from Mickey Fez who called me,we lost contact suddenly.

My impression is that they don't know when this will happen. It isn't "maintenance". When computer people talk about "stabalizing" a system, that means the down time is not planned. It is not unusual for there to be issues when programs are updated. Big companies run side by side systems to confirm that everything is working before going live, but most places can't afford that luxery. That means that sometimes programs go down for awhile. It is frustrating from our end, but it isn't planned in advance by the programers. Hope this info helps.

It would be nice to have a notice placed somewhere like on twitter or facebook, but I am happy just knowing that they know there are issues and that they are working on it. And while of course notice would be nice, personally I'd rather they spend there time fixing it

Bet your bottom dollar they would not pull the plug without prior notice if it were banking systems maintenance.

You dont have to be on facebook or twitter to look for any info about what is happening.
Just type ipernity twitter and you can see page and info if there is any,that twitter feed now is pretty slow but when IMA takes over i hope it will come alive.

I'm one of the few who isn't on Twitter, never thinks of it and hates Facebook (I go on there when I have to, about once a year!). My only social media site is ipernity (and occasionally 23 hq). I simply don't have the time to deal with other sites! ipernity takes up far too much of my time as it is! I have a massive sleep debt! So thank you!! I got a good night's sleep last night!

programming changes can have a ripple effect. they can only make their best guess at how long it will take to fix. Mr. Ruelle says "We expect to stabilize everything during the week-end." The weekend is not over.

Someone please tell me how an image with 1 comment and 1 Fave makes the top of Explore Page 1 as a "popular" photo? It seems the whole philosophy of Explore has instantly changed!

As for the Explore - I have never bothered to check out how it works, but it would be a great idea to feature pictures that don't have many views yet. Why on earth would anyone want to promote a photo which already has, say, 500 likes and 1000 views. I find the idea silly. "Explore" as a word reminds me of venturing to unknown territory -- which the feature in my opinion could or even should be about.

I agree with others that it would be nice and useful if the team had an active Twitter (or Facebook, or whatever) account for both promotion and announcements.

IT issues apart, I have always felt that the most annoying problem with my beloved Ipernity has been the lack of information and communication - weeks and weeks sometimes months and months without any form of messages even just to say 'hello'.

If I am allowed to get involved with helping to run the IMA site in the future I would do everything possible to promote there being regular contact to members every few days or so - at least once a week.

I don't use Facebook or Twitter - I don't like them and really don't want or need them but I have warmed to their presence as alternatives to keeping members informed in the event of the main Ipernity site being down for any reason. I don't think Facebook or Twitter should be considered the way to communicate to members except in an 'emergency'.

Explore is now down to 3 pages. Why not just get rid of it entirely? Obviously, either the old regime doesn't care about it anymore or the new regime can't handle it yet. In either case, this should have been totally worked out before the transfer.

Only Explore on your news page (just 18 pictures) is working properly.
IMA has nothing to do with it, so you can not blame them.

It looks like Explore has been abandoned. Audery IP normally looks after Explore but she seems to have given up on that for now and maybe into the future. IMA have no control on what IP/SA does or does not. No usual mail on "Your News" either today.

I have just recieved 'My News' rather late in the day as it always used to arive between 09.00 and 10.00 my time.I was not aware that Audrey ran explore, as she is relatively new here someone else must havebeen running it but to be honest Tess I never gave it a thought above wondering how a friend could say now and then 'Congratulations on Explore' If this had not happened I would not know that some of my photos are there, if Iopen and look I see none of my own, onlythose of other users.

If this is site optimization I think I preferred it the way it was before. More down than up, slow to load when it is up and Explore is down to less than 2 pages! ;)

Terrible slow performance this evening. Verging on being unuseable, what is going on?

More hiccups since yesterday evening: first of all, difficulties in login in; when login is accomplished, difficulties in moving from page to page.
This brings back a question I asked a few weeks ago in another thread: Supposing that IMA takes over, who will take care of these "hiccups"? Are there competent coders in the group who will be able to maintain the site and fix bugs when they come up?

And most likely none of these complaints reaches the one who can fix these issues.

Sami, I really appreciate your presense here photo wise and also your help with information etc with the transition.

I also know how hard it is to wait, and how hard it is to not have someone at the helm dealing with the issues of the program.

I'm wondering if we can take the information we've been given and try to understand the situation from the other side. What I see is that Christophe was kind to offer to help with the transition for free. I see that a complex business transaction is in process and that (somewhere I read) they have given us a time frame of 6-8 weeks to complete the process. Can we pause and be thankful for the negotiating that has gone on? By not being the ones to be directly in the creation of IMA and it's proposal (I know we all had suggestions), we lay our hopes in those that did. I trust them to do their best.

I think it might be a positive step to have a running list of items that have come up with the program for IMA/Christophe to address AFTER the transition is final. (We do know that Christophe's side is helping with some programming to optimise it [which should mean less cost to us at the back end], but I know doesn't have the staff it took to keep us with quick response time to issues for now.)

I wish to send positive thoughts their way to continue to persevere through this tough time. Will you join me?

I fully understand the situation is not easy for Christophe either, because I think there is not many on his side helping to keep the service running. As a matter of fact, he is most likely all alone at the moment.

We IMA founders also try not to harass Christophe too much and too often.

If a user was lucky enought to reply to a comment, or comment on a repy whatever was written never got through as it got thrown away during a hiccup.
Skype was unstable then unavailable because Microsoft were forced to add extra security due to the Hacker attack Friday.

In contrary to some members, who assumed and mentioned Audrey above.... Audrey did surely NOT manage 'Explore and what's hot', this was an automatic algorithm. Max. 1 image per user and considering how many fav's and comments in what time. This is now obviously abandoned.

I contacted IP with a query asking why Explore did not upload at the weekends. Audrey replied and she told me she managed Explore manually but not at the weekends.

Yes, that 'weekend thing' has been here for a long, long time.

I'm pleased to share Paul's message. He's sure right and Jaap too, that Audrey did some input to Explore but I'm also sure, that the general (first) selection was done by an algorithm. I think it's impossible, that only a human being made this selection, because this would have been a fulltime job. That's what the team responded to a my question about selection mode, I have to admit, this is quite long ago and may be I'm wrong now.

Just picking up on your comment earlier on the Team Ipernity article, especially as I'm one of the ones that mentioned Audrey in connection with Explore.
I have no idea if it's the algorithm or a lack of human input that's responsible for the current problems, but I can assure you that Explore has always required human input from time to time.
Firstly, there have been times in the past when the number of pages displayed has, for whatever reason, declined and it has taken backroom action of some sort (usually by Audrey) to sort it out.
Secondly, the algorithm does not identify content that some might feel inappropriate such as commercial/spam images or adult content. So, again it has always taken some human intervention to 'knock' any such images off Explore.
As I say, I have no idea it it's the algorithm, the lack of human input or a bit of both that explains what's happening lately, but these are the facts as far as the past is concerned. I was going to comment in the thread, but there's enough chatter at times as it is so I thought I'd message you direct instead.
I'll leave it up to you if you want to amend your post or share what I've said! :)

unfortunately that is not always possible. if there are hacker issues or other things going on, in programming one sometimes has to move forward.

Do you know that there were hacker issues? If so, and if the "optimization" has gone bad, why not then go back and start over? But may be I am too naive.

I do not know of any hacker issues, just that it is no uncommon for "optimization" to have to be done if there had been hacker issues.

I regards to going back and starting over - that is not always possible. In programming, especially on the internet, updates are made frequently by the vendors one uses. This requires updating one's own programs to stay in sync. One has to move forward. It's the pits sometimes, but is the way it is at times.

The worldwide Hacking was on every TV & Online News service, in all 90 countries were hit but not France,they had one a week erlier.

Its working better today,its fast and sharp here on balcans,maybe they fixed it.

Explore is full of Advertising spam. Look at the last 3 pages of 12. This spam reduces Explore to an advertising forum and makes a joke of what Explore was intended to be.

For the time being concentrate on your news page where you will find the newest 18 Explore picture.

Perhaps Monsieur CR had to find a new revenue source with 'sponsored' pictures, because 'we' (or at least the most) will not renew our Club membership.

ps: checked a couple of that images and most of them are from rather new members !!

Explore has become a joke. It is now a free advertising spam site which has nothing to do with concentrating on my news page.

If you don't want to take a look at the 18 newest Explore pictures (for the time being) it is your choice.

I went to see the 8 explore pages today. Effectively there are some suspect issues. And also I asked myself why there is none of my pictures? I see many others that have less apreciations than mine, so I would like to know in what basis is the choice made. Not that I care, it is just curiosity.

Dear background expert Fizgig! Why somebody puts so much energy end effort in his drastic comments, when he practically already left Ipernity. This is an exceptional situation here with IP/SA actually bancrupt and IMA not yet having command. Such discussions and comments are not constructive. We have to be patient for a while.
